At the end of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey (2026) (spoilers ahead!), Odysseus leaves Ithaca with Penelope, sailing west to honor the men who followed him and died during his journey.
Why does sailing west specifically honor his men, rather than staying in Ithaca to honor them there, or traveling somewhere else to do so? Is there a specific location he's heading toward, or some other action he needs to take beyond making the voyage? If not, what is it about the voyage itself that honors his men?
